Economic Downturn means cuts to Australia Visa Immigration
The Australian Government is looking to reduce the number of people granted working visas as a result of the global economic downturn as a way of protecting Australian jobs.
Australian jobs in building and manufacturing have been targeted by the Australian Government and will be removed from the skills list meaning a reduction of 18,500 immigrant workers this year.
Other skilled jobs like Doctors and nurses, or other industry sectors which have acute skill shortage still exist have not been affected yet. The skill list is now made up of occupations from health and medical, engineering and IT.
The move to cut Australian Immigration has been welcomed by Australian Trade
Unions.
The reduction to the number of skilled Australia Visas to be granted this year follows the announcement in December that resulted in only migrants sponsored by an employer on the 457 visa scheme or in an occupation on the critical skills list being granted a Australia visa under the Australia Skilled Migration Program.
The Australia Immigration Minister, Senor Chris Evans, said the Australian Government intended to constantly review the critical skills list and will remove any occupations where demand can be met by Australian workers.
If the global economic downturn continues Immigration to Australia will undoubtedly become harder for those people wanting to work in Australia.
