British Nurses are heading for work in Australia
Britain’s Royal College of Nursing has warned the UK Government that too many UK nurses are being lured to work in Australia.
The head of Policy at the Royal College of Nursing, Howard Catton, explained that UK nurses were receiving attractive offers to work in Australia. He said that the UK needed to retain the nurses his college were training. Catton told the BBC he had met with Australian employers who had traveled to the UK with the intention of employing sixty nurses, but had made job offers to double that number.
Last year saw 5000 nurses signaled an intention to work in an Australian hospital. At the same time the number of foreign nurses wanting to work in the UK had declined.
Australian businesses have increased their recruitment activity in the UK on the basis that the unemployment amongst NHS nurses and downsizing in the UK provides them with a pool of potential recruits.
“There is a belief that in the UK we don’t need the nurses we’ve got – but we know we do need them,” Catton said.
The increasing number of people looking to immigrate to Australia compounded with the limited number of immigration places available has meant there is greater competition amongst applicants for Australian visas and jobs in Australia. It is now probably more important than ever to have a good understanding of how the Australian immigration officials assess visa applications in order that applicants can maximise their chance of gaining an Australian Visa and a job in Australia.
